How We Use AI
We believe you should know exactly what happens when you use AI features in Tick. No vague language, no fine print — just clear facts.
One-sentence summary
AI only activates when you open the Ask AI tab and tap Generate. Only your prompt text is sent — never your existing notes, todos, or any personal data.
What AI engine does Tick use?
Tick uses a state-of-the-art AI engine optimised for speed and structured outputs — ideal for generating notes and todo lists from natural language prompts. We may update the underlying AI provider over time to give you the best possible experience. We deliberately do not hardcode a specific provider name, so this document remains accurate regardless of which engine we use.
When is AI used?
AI activates only when you open the Ask AI tab and tap Generate. Notes, todos, reminders, search, tags, voice input in the note editor — all of these work completely independently of AI.
If you never open the Ask AI tab, nothing is ever sent to our AI service. Not even once.
What is sent to the AI?
Your prompt — Exactly what you type or speak into the AI field — e.g. "packing list for a 5-day Goa trip".
System instructions — A short instruction we include telling the AI to respond with a structured note or todo list — not your personal content.
What is NOT sent to the AI?
Your existing notes
Your existing todo lists
Voice audio files
Device information or identifiers
Your location
Any personal or account data
Are prompts stored?
We do not store prompts or AI responses on any server we operate. Your AI interactions are not logged by Tick. Our AI provider may have their own data retention policies as described in their terms of service.
Usage limits
To keep the AI feature sustainable and prevent abuse, Tick applies fair usage limits — a per-minute cap to prevent rapid bursts, and a daily cap that resets at midnight. These limits apply to all users equally. If you reach the limit, a clear message will explain why and when you can try again.
Security
All AI communication happens over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access credentials for our AI service are stored securely server-side and are never exposed in the app or to end users.
AI accuracy disclaimer
AI can be wrong. Generated notes or todo lists may contain inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading information. Always review AI-generated content before acting on it. Tick is not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated output.
Fully opt-in
The AI assistant is a tab you choose to open. Notes, todos, reminders, voice input in the editor, search, and appearance settings are all 100% local and involve no AI at all. You are never required to use the AI feature, and the rest of the app functions identically without it.
